Employer toolkit — gambling support at work (Ireland)

GamblingHelp.ie · Information only · Not affiliated with the HSE or GRAI

HR note

Gambling harm affects roughly 1 in 30 adults in Ireland and many more family members. It typically presents in the workplace as absenteeism, financial stress, requests for advances, or sudden performance changes. A supportive, confidential response keeps people in work and reduces long-term cost.

Manager guide — having the conversation

  • Choose a private setting. Lead with care, not discipline.
  • Describe specific changes you have observed — not assumptions.
  • Offer practical support: EAP referral, a link to GamblingHelp.ie, time to make a call.
  • Maintain confidentiality. Document only what is necessary for HR.

Posters and intranet copy

"Worried about gambling — your own, or someone you love? Take a private 3-minute check at GamblingHelp.ie. Free, anonymous, Ireland-focused."

Policy template (starter)
