Self-exclusion checklist — Ireland
Self-exclusion works best when it is layered. Operator self-exclusion plus a bank block plus a device block is far harder to bypass than any single measure alone. Work through this list in order.
1. Operator self-exclusion
- List every operator I have ever used.
- Self-exclude from each one — usually six months minimum.
- Use GAMSTOP for operators licensed in Britain.
- Ask Irish-licensed operators directly to action self-exclusion.
2. Bank-level blocking
- Enable the gambling block in my main banking app (AIB, Bank of Ireland, PTSB, Revolut, An Post Money, others as relevant).
- Remove saved cards from gambling sites and digital wallet.
- Lower credit-card limit, or close the card if appropriate.
3. Device-level blocking
- Install Gamban or BetBlocker on phone and laptop.
- Set device-level content restrictions to block gambling categories.
- Delete every gambling app from my phone.
4. Social and contextual
- Leave WhatsApp / Telegram groups whose main purpose is betting tips.
- Unfollow / mute gambling-adjacent accounts on social media.
- Tell one trusted person what I have done.
5. If a slip happens
Tell someone within 48 hours. Re-do this checklist from the top. A slip is not a failure of the plan; it is information about which layer needs strengthening.
